About Us

Nestled off Edinburgh Castle Road, and set amongst a beautiful natural bush environment, Wavell Heights Kindergarten is a hidden gem in the local community.

The service has a rating of ‘Exceeding’ in the National Quality Standard (NQS) – a national benchmark for early childhood education and care services in Australia. This is testament to the exceptional care, dedication and passion the educators offer each child through their learning journey at this beautiful community kindergarten.

Our History

In 2020 Wavell Heights Kindergarten celebrated 60 years of service to the community. What an achievement! A stalwart of the local Northside community, Wavell Heights Kindergarten has educated generations of children since their opening in 1960 and services Wavell Heights, Nundah, Kedron, Chermside, Wooloowin, Northgate, Virginia and surrounding areas.

The kindergarten is proudly affiliated with the C&K Association of Queensland. Wavell Heights Kindergarten is a not for profit organisation, community owned and operated, with a volunteer Management Committee, which is responsible for the management of the service, alongside the two Co-Directors and Teachers, Usha Balachandran and Karen Fance. The Management Committee undertakes the general management of the centre and controls the affairs of the association.

Many kindergarten families remain connected to the centre and offer their skills and time to volunteer at the special community days throughout the year as a token of thanks for their child’s wonderful Kindy experience.

Our Philosophy

Since inception, Wavell Heights Kindergarten has been affiliated with the Crèche and Kindergarten Association Limited (C&K). C&K provides support for the Educators in Professional Development, policy and curriculum through the ‘C&K Curriculum Approach: Listening and Learning Together’ and Australian Government’s ‘The Early Years Learning Framework’.
